Art on Purpose is a community art organization that "provides art workshops,
exhibitions, and programs in direct support of education, social justice,
and community service, while at the same time delivering art experiences of
the highest aesthetic quality."
The project is having several showings this week, and are detailed in the
forwarded email message.
Art on Purpose is a worthy endeavor and I encourage you to check out their

Subject: This Week: Something for Everyone...
Dear Friends;
Art on Purpose presents three different events this week:
Wednesday, January 30, 6-7:30pm, please join us for UNLEASHED: Chezia
Thompson Cager Meets KRE at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center, 847 N. Howard
Street. The event features poetry and jazz music presented by award-winning
poet Chezia Thompson Cager, the Fire Poets from the Maryland Institute
College of Art, and the Kevin Robinson Trio. The event is FREE and open to
the public and takes place in the context of Art on Purpose's exhibition
Speaking of Silence II - a great way to liven up the middle of the week!
Thursday, January 31, 7pm, join us at Homewood Friends Meeting, 3107 N.
Charles Street, for the film Battle in Heaven followed by discussion
moderated by David O'Donaghue of the Baltimore Lyceum. Battle in Heaven is
part of Art on Purpose's and the Baltimore Lyceum's What Takes Place in
Silence: A Film Series, screenings of international films that use silence
in evocative ways to further artistic content. The event is FREE and open to
the public - and popcorn will be served! (NOTE: Battle in Heaven contains
nudity and adult material.)
Friday, February 1, 6-8pm, The Park School of Baltimore, located at 2425 Old
Court Road (take I-83 to the Ruxton Rd. exit; turn left and proceed 1/3 of a
mile to left on Park School Drive), presents the opening reception for
Cardinal Points: the Relationship between Art and Maps, an exhibition on
view February 1 to April 15, 2008. Among other things, the show includes a
sampling of maps from Art on Purpose's Maps on Purpose project. See just a
few of the many maps that will be on exhibit at The Walters Art Museum in a
series of exhibitions March 1 to June 8, 2008 - on view at Park School, maps
made by residents from the Baltimore neighborhoods of Middle East, Oliver,
South Baltimore Peninsula, Charles Village, and Oakenshawe. (Please see
attached e-vite for more information about the exhibit!)
In a variety of ways, Art on Purpose continues to use art to bring people
together around issues and ideas!
