West Covington URP - Hearing Results

The West Covington Urban Renewal Plan (URP) as proposed by the Baltimore
Development Corporation was heard by the Planning Commission last week.  The
community - inclusive of the businesses located within the boundaries of, or
otherwise impacted by the URP - presented a strong and unified case is
support of urban renewal, but in opposition of the use of eminent domain,
which was integral to the proposed URP.  The Planning Commission voted 7-1
not to recommend an urban renewal plan that would enable the use of eminent
domain to acquire private property.  The bill now rests with the City
Council, who is expected to take the recommendation of the Planning
Commission.
